World Cup 2010

Gary Lineaker said 'football is a game played for 90 minutes and then the Germans win'

Yesterday the Germans had won it as soon as Klose scored that frankly embarrassing goal on 20 minutes. But then, as I choked back the rising anger, a strange thing began to happen as I watched the rest of the football horrorfest. I began to admire the eleven men in white.
I shrugged off a lifetime of prejudice and anger at the way the Germans can always net a penalty and beat us, yesterday you could only marvel at the way they played the game as it should be played.
Pace, skill and confidence, if only we could. I say, after decades of casting them as our footballing nemesis, we need to embrace our Teutonic brothers and find out what their secret is!
